While they haven’t been at it nearly as long as the likes of Billy Joel, the duo Jackopierce (Carey Pierce + Jack O’Neill) has been making music for more than 35 years. Last week they released their latest single “I Want My Life” a jaunty and airy effort that feels worlds apart from their 90s singalong “Vineyard.”

Ostensibly a paean to overcoming laziness “I Want My Life‘ is a bubbly cut that has one hand firmly in 90s alt-rock and another in modern-day indie (COIN, MGMT, etc). Now based in seperate cities (O’Neill in New York, Pierce in Dallas) the duo has steadily released new music via Patreon and streaming platforms since reforming in 2008.

The duo, which broke up in 1998 after a decade together, has released 12 albums, and perhaps another is on the way. Whether “I Want My Life” makes the final cut remains to be seen but it’s an engaging effort nonetheless. Jackopierce is on the road currently and head to Nashville later this week.
