It would be a disservice to have this day come and go without shedding light on what today’s date means in music history. Sixty years ago today The Beatles peformed on the Ed Sullivan Show to a TV audience of 73 million. In looking back on that performance the late George Harrison said the following: “We were that Ed Sullivan was the big one because we got a telegram from Elvis and the Colonel. And I’ve heard that while the show was on there were no reported crimes, or very few. When The Beatles were on Ed Sullivan, even the criminals had a rest for ten minutes.”
To celebrate the occasion, The Beatles’ USA webstore has launched a virtual, interactive shopping experience for fans to relive the Fab Bour’s first trip to the United States. And if you’re in Las Vegas, drop what you’re doing and buy tickets for the LOVE by Cirque du Soleil performance.
