San Francisco retro rockers The Stone Foxes have announced a hometown benefit show this Friday night at the Community Music Center (CMCSF). Other artists scheduled to perform include La Familia Pena Govea and Vetiver (solo). The San Francisco Community Music Center is a nonprofit music school and the oldest community arts organization in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Frontman Shannon Koehler said of the event: “I’ve been working for CMCSF since the pandemic and wanted to put together a concert series to celebrate their newly expanded campus. The series is free to the public with a suggested donation featuring acclaimed artists of all genres. Come support making music education available to all and see The Stone Foxes’ only show on the calendar!”

The Stone Foxes have released more than a dozen albums since their spectacular self-titled 2008 debut, with each release better than the rest. Their latest On The Other Side (released in 2022) is a transcendent work of staggering genius and draws on frontman Shannon Koehler’s experiences with an open heart surgery (his second open heart surgery and fourteenth heart surgery to date). The album was praised by the likes of Consequence of Sound, USA Today and NPR. For me though their success is a point of pride. I reviewed their 2008 debut for AbsolutePunk.net and was certain they’d be a band to watch in the years to come. Sure enough, they’ve proved me right every step of the way. If you’re in the Bay Area, make a point to stop and see them this Friday.
