Music producer extraordinaire T-Bone Burnett (Counting Crows, Los Lobos, Gillian Welch, Gregg Allman, Roy Orbison, et al) will release his first solo album in nearly 20 years on April 19 on Verve Forecast Records. Entitled The Other Side, the album’s first single “Waiting For You” (seen above) features harmony vocals from Lucius. A Nashville-based tour will support the album’s release. The GRAMMY and Oscar-winning prdoducer enlisted the help of Rosanne Cash and Weyes Blood on the album alongside longtime collaborators Steven Soles (guitar), Dennis Crouch (bass), Stuart Duncan (fiddle), Jay Bellerose (drums) and Rory Hoffman (steel guitar).
Burnett has technically released four albums since his last solo effort, 2006’s The True False Identity, but each of those albums was a special project of sorts. 2008’s Tooth of Crime was based on the Sam Shepherd play of the same name, while 2011’s The Speaking Clock Revue was a live album. 2013’s A Place at the Table was a soundtrack album featuring The Civil Wars. 2019 and 2022 saw the release of the Invisible Light albums, but those were co-bills with Jay Bellerose and Keefus Ciancia and all three shared songwriting duties.
The 12-songs that make up The Other Side comprise a concept album of sorts that focuses on a love story and all the highs and lows that accompany it. The tracklist and featured collaborators can be seen below:
- He Came Down
