Long Island prog-jam-instrumental rock band TAUK announced today that they will perform a special tribute concert on April 27 at New Orlean’s Toulouse Theatre in conjunction with JazzFest 2024. Titled the Tower of Wonder the tribute concert will be a celebration of living legend Stevie Wonder and funk heavyweights Tower of Power.
At its core TAUK is an instrumental band comprised of guitarist Matt Jalbert, keyboardist AC Carter, bassist Charlie Dolan and drummer Isaac Teel. However in recent years the band has collaborated with various vocalists to give their songs and their sound more scope.
Tower of Wonder will feature Kanika Moore of Doom Flamingo who collaborated with the band on their full-length album TAUK Moore. Other Tower of Wonder vocalists slated to appear include New York City singer-songwriter Lyle Divinsky and a horn section comprised of Cool Cool Cool‘s Chris Brouwers, Greg Sanderson and Josh Schwartz. When touring with TAUK the latter trio goes by the unoriginal title of The Horn Section.
The New Orleans tribute show is not a new concept for TAUK. Last year the quartet performed a sold-out show at Toulouse Theater that was a tribute to both Parliament Funkadelic and Sly + The Family Stone. That concert included collaborations with Moore, the aforementioned three-part horn section, D’Vibes, DJ Williams and Vulfpeck’s Antwaun Stanley.
Speaking of this year’s tribute concert, TAUK keys player Carter said the following: “Jazz Fest is always a special time for us and after last year’s Parliament vs. Sly and the Family Stone set, we wanted to elevate the energy. We wanted to include horns and vocals to make this a party and thought Stevie Wonder’s catalog would meld perfectly. But as lovers of funk, we also wanted to challenge ourselves. Tower of Power’s tight, explosive grooves and rhythms were the next logical step. Can’t wait to share this rich music with y’all. There’s no doubt this will be epic.”
