Hope Sandoval, lead singer of influential indie-rockers Mazzy Star, has dropped “The Long Walk Home” a Glenn Campbell cover today. The track appears on Glen Campbell Duets: Ghost on the Canvas Sessions, an album of Glen Campbell songs, released by Big Machine Records and Surfdog Records. “Long Walk Home” is co-written by the late Campbell and Julian Raymond and is a tender narrative about his battle with Alzheimer’s and confronting his own mortality.
Raymond also serves as producer of the album and shared this insight as to why he chose Sandoval to appear on the album: “Glen and I listened to a couple of different Mazzy Star songs while we were preparing to record the Meet Glen Campbell album and after listening to ‘Mary of Silence’ he said ‘I can’t do better than that. He greatly admired Hope’s talent. Her vocal on this song is just stunning and beautiful, you really feel the emotion of the song.”
“The Long Walk Home” is the fourth track released from the forthcoming album, due out April 19. The album features the likes of: Carole King, Sting, Eric Church, Eric Clapton, Brian Setzer, Dolly Parton, Brian Wilson, Linda Perry, Daryl Hall, X and Elton John.
Arguably one of the most influential country musicians of all time, Campbell released 64 albums and won countless awards during his 60+ year career.
