One of the 1960s most singular voices, folk icon and activist Joan Baez, announced today that she will release her debut poetry collection When You See My Mother, Ask Her to Dance on April 30 via Godine. Baez has written poetry for decades but has yet to publicly release any of her work. The collection is set to include autobiographical entries, reflections and more. The book is now available for pre-order.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame entrant is riding a surge of positive momentum in the last fourteen months. Last year the documentary Joan Baez: I Am a Noise premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival via Magnolia Pictures and received universal acclaim. Later that year, Baez released a book of drawings Am I Pretty When I Fly?, which was also met with endless praise. One has to think this new poetry collection will follow suit.
Here’s hoping.
