Pittsburgh’s heartland rockers The Gathering Field will celebrate the 30-year anniversary of their self-titled debut album on May 17 at the Pittsburgh Winery. Frontman and founder Bill Deasy has said that the entire album will be played front to back. Deasy added, “We will also do lots more songs, of course, at our new favorite place to play, but the 12-song recreation will be the heart of the show.”
The Gathering Field made a small splash in the mid-to-late 90s with the release of their near-flawless Atlantic Records debut Lost in America. The album would unfortunately be their only major label release. Two studio releases followed before the band called it quits in 2002. They continued to play one-off dates through the years and released a fantastic studio release Wild Journey in 2014.
In the band’s wake front man Bill Deasy released a plethora of music and to date has released more than a dozen albums since 2003. He’s also a published author and has had his songs covered by the likes of Martina McBride, Kim Richey, The Clarks, Bijou Phillips, Howard Jones, Billy Ray Cyrus and the late Michael Stanley. He has written with songwriters such as Mark Hudson, Darrell Brown, Richie Supa, Stephen Bishop, Maia Sharp, Kim Richey and Jane Wiedlin among others. As a solo artist, Deasy has shared the stages with the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Rosanne Cash, Patty Griffin, John Hiatt, World Party, Norah Jones and the late Warren Zevon, among others.
For those in the Pittsburgh area who want to get a jump on the May 17 show. Deasy is playing a solo show on May 3 at Wigle Whiskey for a pairing night complete with a two hour set. Deasy has promised a night of quality songs and drinks in an intimate setting. Details and tickets can be found here.
