If you’re in the mood for feel good, hip-shaking global music, look no further than “People” the latest single from New York City-based global pop outfit Yemen Blues. Ostensibly a song about unity and kindness “People” is the quartest’s latest offering on Conscious Music Group and Kartel Music Group.
Vocalist Ravid Kalahani is Yemeni and even sprinkles in some Arabic in the song’s latter stages. Arguably the strongest component to the song is the addition of a gospel choir, which allows the song to be both a prayer and a celebration. For the accompanying music video, Yemen Blues featured MOVE NYC, a local arts and social justice nonprofit that benefits New York City teenagers through access to dance classes.
Speaking about the song Ravid Kalahani said the following: “What we wanted to do on ‘People’ was to bring those arts, cultures, and people together in a special recording. There’s a lot of diasporas in it.”
Yemen Blues is:
Ravid Kalahani (vocalist and gimbri)
Shanir Ezra Blumenkranz (bass and oud)
Rony Iwryn (percussion)
Dan Mayo (drums)
