The untimely passing of Justin Townes Earle in August of 2020 was equal parts tragic, significant and utterly heartwrenching. Americana music lost one of its finest singer-songwriters and a wife and daughter lost their everything. Earle’s battles with depression and substance abuse were well documented but his music was downright relevatory. Leaving the world at just 38 left a void in Americana that might never be filled.
Granted his music will live on but his 13 year career gave us so much that one can’t help but ache for more. In 2017, Earle signed with New West Records and released two albums: Kids in the Street and 2019’s The Saint of Lost Causes. Both were career bests and proved that Earle was churning out some of the best music of his career. Fatherhood and marriage had allowed him to tap into a renewed creativity and the future seemed bright. But in August of 2020 that all changed. Four years later that ache for more music has come to a halt.
Today, New West Records has announced ALL IN: Unreleased + Rarities (The New West Years) will be released Aug. 9. The 19-track collection features 12 previously unreleased recordings and six never before heard songs. Earle tackles covers by the likes of John Prine, Bruce Springsteen and Fletwood Mac among others. A limited deluxe edition of the album includes a 52 page hardbound book featuring unpublished photographs by Earle’s good friend Joshua Black Wilkins and liner notes by Earle’s widow Jenn Marie Earle, producer Adam Bednarik and more.
To mark the release New West Records has dropped Earle’s mesmerizing take on Fleetwood Mac’s ubiquitous single “Dreams” out now on all digital streaming platforms.
ALL IN: Unreleased & Rarities (The New West Years) will be available across digital platforms, compact disc, and standard black vinyl. A deluxe, limited & numbered edition on Gold Nugget colored vinyl will be packaged in a rigid slipcase alongside the 52-page hardbound book. Both versions are available for pre-order at New West Records.
