This blog has been heavy on country music lately, so it’s time to switch it up. Let’s talk film and let’s talk music royalty.
The late, great Tom Petty will posthumously appear on the silver screen as Cameron Crowe’s lost 1980s documentary Heartbreakers Beach Party will hit theaters Oct. 17 and 20. The film was Crowe’s directorial debut and also marks the first time the documentary hsa ever been seen in theaters (it had previously only aired on MTV). The 2024 version of the film is fully restored and features an intro from Crowe as well as 20 minutes of additional footage featuring Tom and the band as they tour behind the Long After Dark album.
In tandem with the release of the film the deluxe edition of Long After Dark will also drop on Oct. 18. This new version features a dozen re-discovered tracks and seven previously unreleased deep cuts. For vinyl lovers, the 2 LP expanded limited eition will be pressed on 180-gram color vonyland housed in a numbered foil jacket and also includes an extensive lithograph.
