Anyone who reads this blog knows this writer is always searching out for the next great musical discovery. Heck that very thing is what led me to blogging back in 2005. And while most of those blogs are defucnt and live on only in the recesses of my brain, this blog remains very viable and very much alive.

So who is today’s find? The band is trio Copper Flats and they hail from Arkansas. As anyone who reads this blog might surmise, they are indeed a country music band and well they’re still quite new. Co-founder Jeremy Castaldo says the band formed in September 2024 after each had spent stints in other country outfits. Flats is signed to indepenent label Rock Ridge Music, slated to appear on tour with 90s pop-turned-country outfit and labelmates Sister Hazel.

As for the band? They’re as self-assured, confident and polished as any country outfit this writer has heard in years. And of course, they’re still unsigned to a major label. That latter point might be moot come this time next year.

The song that first made a splash was the bursting, arena-ready breakup anthem “Airples and Telephones” and hot damn if it’s not one of the best songs released this year. Castaldo promises more new music is on the way.

Vocalist Brandon Kelly’s vocals are bursting with charisma and should impact radio in due course. As for the song itself, it was co-written by te late chart-topper Andrew Dorff, Jonathan Singleton and Zach Crowell. Dorff’s catalog includes Chesney’s “Save It For a Rainy Day”, “Neon” and “My Eyes” from Blake Shelton and “Somebody’s Heartbreak” from Hunter Hayes among others. Singleton has written songs for the likes of Lainey Wilson, Zac Brown Band and Luke Combs, among others. Crowell has produced or written songs for Keith Urban, Luke Bryan and Carrie Underwood to name a few.

Multi-instrumentalist Castaldo and guitarist/vocalist Drew Smith were both in the band Midnight South and toured in Tyler Kinch‘s road band. All three members of Copper Flats have shared the stages with the likes of: Kenny Chesney, Parker McCollum, Justin Moore, Dylan Scott, Bailey Zimmerman, Flatland Calvary, Nate Smith, Randy Houser, Lonestar, Tyler Farr, Corey Kent and Easton Corbin to name just a few.

The band admits they got their start in Nashville working with producer and friend Aaron Gillespie (Thomas Rhett, Mitchell Tenpenny, RaeLynn) and built their sound around three-part harmonies, Kelly’s rustic, gospel-infused vocals and indelible guitar riffs. In March, the band released their debut single “Should’ve Been Doin’” and let their name be known to those paying attention. With the release of “Airplanes and Telephones” they seem well on their way.

The band’s press assets indicate their music for fans of: Brooks + Dunn, Blake Shelton, Alabama and Cody Johnson, and that’s about as solid a suggestion as any.
