Brian Wiltsey is an Atlanta singer songwriter who might just be the hardest working musician you’ve never heard of. He’s a dynamic vocalist who has released six original studio albums and gigs consistently in the Atlanta metro area. And earlier this year he released something that might be worth paying attention to. George Michael’s classic “Careless Whisper” got a reboot from Wiltsey featuring vocals from up-and-coming singer-songwriter Alexa Husak. Wiltsey self-produced the song while also playing all the instruments. Last year he did something similar with the 70s classic “Our House” featuring vocals from another up-and-coming female singer-songwriter: Maddie Huseman.
A South Jersey native, Wiltsey came into his own fronting the acoustic rock outfit MBB (formerly Montgomery Burns Band) who got their start at this writer’s alma mater Elon University (then Elon College) and toured heavily in the early 2000s throughout the United States. Record labels flirted with signing them but after the wear-and-tear of touring the band decided to call it quits. Wiltsey relocated to Atlanta in 2001 and has called the city his home ever since. Name an ATL singer-songwriter that called the city home from 2001 – present, chances are Wiltsey has shared a stage or songwriting session with them.
He is known for his strong vocals, knack for writing catchy melodies and lyrics, and versatility in performing a wide range of musical genres. His music blends pop/rock, indie/alternative, and folk influences with singer/songwriter vibes. He’s been performing professionally for over 25 years and has transitioned into songwriting and producing for TV/film and ad licensing, while still maintaining a presence as a live musician.
While his days of widespread national touring are very much behind him, this husband and father of two continues to gig relentlessly in Atlanta and continues to churn out songs pretty consistently. His Spotify remains the go-to place for all things Wiltsey, although live streams on Instagram and Facebook have become the best place to catch him live (from a distance).
It’s been three years since Wiltsey’s last-release, the criminally underrated Renewal, a valentine to his wife of 10+ years. Whether or not 2025 or 2026 is the year he releases his seventh album remains to be seen. For now, give yourself an hour and dive into his discography. Chances are you’ll find something you like. I damn well guarantee it.
