For what feels like a decade, if not longer, CBS Saturday Morning has chosen to spotlight new and under-the-radar musicians. Some artists who have performed on the show in the last couple years include the likes of: Brandy Clark, Abraham Alexander, Robert Finley, Abby Hamilton, Laufey, Joy Oladokun, SYML, Danielle Ponder, Rachael + Vilray, Madison Cunningham, MUNA, Nikki Lane, Fantastic Cat, The Dip, Kat Edmonson, Villagers, Courtney Barnett, Alvvays, Langhorne Slim, Offa Rex and Noah Gundersen, to name but a few. Americana heavyweights like Nickel Creek, Lyle Lovett and Old Crow Medicine Show have also appeared in the last couple of years.

This Saturday one such band caught my attention and left me transfixed. The quartet is called Slow Pulp and they hail from Milwaukee but are now based in Chicago. The easiest description is something akin to dream pop with ample amounts of alt-rock and indie leanings. The band played their song “Slugs” off their new album Yard, which was released last year on Anti Records. Maybe I’ve been too plugged into country music and Americana but this indie group had not been on my radar. Looking through my inbox it appears two different publicists tried to get me interested in the band in both 2019 and 2020. And stupidly I never bothered to pay attention.

Well, that changed this morning.

This year will prove quite transformative for the band. Slow Pulp is the opener on The Postal Service / Death Cab for Cutie stadium tour which begins next month in Alpharetta, GA. After that tour the band heads to Europe in June, culminating in a rather robust UK tour.
